A 16-year-old escapee from the St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center was arrested in south St. Louis on Friday, after police say they spotted him attempting to forcibly enter several homes.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, undercover detectives from its Anti-Crime Task Force were conducting operations in the city’s Patch neighborhood when they noticed the young man’s actions. After detectives tried to stop him, they say the suspect attempted to run away while discarding a firearm. The suspect was eventually taken into custody and detectives later recovered the weapon, which they identified as a handgun with an extended magazine.
Detectives learned that the teen had escaped the detention center on November 24. After his arrest more than one week later, he was taken to the city’s Division of Youth Services. According to St, Louis police, the teen has been referred to the juvenile system 19 times…
