ST. LOUIS — The Federal Trade Commission, joined by 21 states and the District of Columbia, has filed an amended complaint against Uber, accusing the company of deceptive billing and cancellation practices tied to its Uber One subscription service.
The lawsuit alleges that Uber charged consumers for its monthly or annual Uber One subscription without their consent, failed to deliver promised savings, such as $0 delivery fees and up to $25 in monthly savings, and made it unreasonably difficult for users to cancel the service.
The FTC first sued Uber in April over the Uber One program. The amended complaint adds states to the case and seeks civil penalties for alleged violations of the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act as well as state consumer protection laws…
