ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Two men from St. Louis have each been awarded the Carnegie Medal for their response and actions in a 2024 plane crash in Columbia, Illinois.
According to the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, on December 8, 2024, 71-year-old Michael Brenner was trapped inside the cockpit of a plane he was piloting after it crashed and was upside down in a field in Colombia.
The force of the crash buried the plexiglass canopy of the cockpit about a foot deep in soft dirt, and the plane’s engine area caught fire, causing flames and smoke to fill the cockpit…
