ST. LOUIS — Janitors represented by Service Employees International Union Local 1 have ratified a new contract with a coalition of cleaning companies.
The three-year contract covers about 1,600 janitors in the St. Louis area who work at hundreds of buildings including schools, banks and universities. Local 1 did not release the tally for the vote, held Saturday.
The new contract includes a 43% increase to pension contributions, “a monthly premium for medical coverage that is cut almost in half and can include better dental and also vision for the first time, and significant wage increases every year throughout the life of the contract,” according to Local 1…
