North City man dies almost 6 months after assault at home; police open homicide investigation

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – In early April, a man was struck on the head after he answered the door to his north St. Louis City home. Police are now investigating it as a homicide after the man died months later from the assault.

On April 6, 74-year-old Willie Chappel told police he answered the door to his house on the 5300 block of Arlington when he was then hit on the head. This assault caused him to fall and pass out.

Chappel went to the North Patrol Division of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to report the incident; police noted that Chappel had “noticeable injuries” at the time he reported the assault…
