ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department released numbers for “shots fired” calls and Shotspotter activations for New Year’s Eve and the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. The stats show a dramatic increase in the number of calls to police about gunfire.
St. Louis police track the number of calls and Shotspotter reports as part of Operation Fun Without Guns, which is in effect from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 of a given year.
Gunfire was up approximately 47% year-over-year, going from 532 calls on New Year’s Eve 2024 to 782 calls for this past New Year’s.
