Riverview mayor wears a gun and badge, local leaders at center of resident concerns

Editor’s note – This is the third story in a series of pieces trying to understand the challenges faced by Riverview. In our month-long investigation, First Alert 4 has spoken to over 30 people or organizations, ranging from current and former residents of Riverview, the FBI, former employees, government officials with St. Louis County and the State of Missouri, and others with ties to the community.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Before his arrest on Thursday, First Alert 4 had spent a month looking into Riverview Mayor Mike Cornell Jr., including his claims that the KKK had entered the Riverview community to draw racist graffiti. During our investigation, we spoke with former leaders and locals who raised serious concerns about Cornell’s behavior.

Locals say Cornell drives an unmarked police vehicle, carries a gun and badge and orders police officers around. Regarding the badge residents said Cornell would wear, it is unclear just what kind of badge it was…
