Bicyclist escorted off I-64 near Forest Park by police

ST. LOUIS — A bicyclist who appears to have taken a very wrong turn was escorted by police off of Interstate 64 near Forest Park after riding along the highway.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department shared the photo on social media with the caption: “Some things don’t need a caption, and a reminder that bicycles do not belong on the highway.”

The SLMPD’s photo shows them escorting the bicyclist off the I-64 exit ramp approaching Hampton Avenue, certainly not where bicycles belong.

Under Missouri law, bicycles are allowed on most public streets, but are prohibited on interstates and highway travel lanes. In St. Louis, bicyclists are also not allowed on sidewalks in business districts, and are expected to follow the same rules of the road as any other driver, like stopping at stop signs, lights, and riding on the right-hand side of the road…
