Commercial trucks blamed for quickly depleting St. Louis free salt supply

ST. LOUIS — A pilot program intended to help St. Louis residents prepare for last Friday’s snowstorm by providing free salt turned into a source of frustration after commercial vehicles reportedly depleted the supply.

Ahead of the winter weather, the City of St. Louis announced on Facebook that it had distributed 1.5 tons of salt across five different firehouses.

The program was designed on a “bring your own bucket” basis. However, supplies ran out so quickly that many residents, including Susan Troiani, who visited three different locations, left empty-handed…
