I am an unapologetic fan of virtually all pizza including the big chain places. However, I have an especially soft place in my heart for pizza places that are off the beaten path. That’s the story of a Missouri place that has just been called out as being the best hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in the state and they’ve been at it for more than 75 years.
If this looks familiar to you, you probably are aware of the Missouri pizza place that has just been called out as among the best in America for having slices worth the effort to find them. According to a brand new list from Cheapism, Monte Bello Pizzeria located at 3662 Weber Road in St. Louis is the best hole-in-the-wall pizza in the state. They say that Monte Bello opened first way back in 1950. The ratings by Yelp reviewers agree. Tony C visited a few weeks ago and said this:
“First time there. Been wanting to go for a year now. Small cavern-like space filled with couples and family. The young lady at the takeout area was very friendly & welcoming. Enjoyed a conversation with an amiable person waiting for their pizza as well. So far so fab !! Onto the pizza. The smell in my car drove me crazy on the short drive home btw. Let me tell, the pizza was delicious. Thin style with a cornmeal crust, but the toppings were so generous & delicious.”
