Demolition begins on Florissant homes with radioactive waste found underneath

FLORISSANT, Mo. — Demolition will begin next week for six consecutive homes in a Florissant neighborhood after radioactive waste was found underneath their homes on Cades Cove Drive.

The Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is responsible for the cleanup. FUSRAP handles contamination cleanup from the nation’s early atomic energy program.
