Long-standing St. Louis nightclub fights for survival amid licensing battle

ST. LOUIS — After 20 years of operation, including 15 years at its current location on North 15th Street, Europe Night Club is facing an official protest against its 3 a.m. closing permit.

Owner Bobbi Baker received the notification from the city of St. Louis Excise Commissioner on Feb. 5, marking the start of a 30-day window to gather community support.

A Clash Over Nightlife and Safety

Baker notes that when the club first opened, the area was where nightlife thrived.

“It was the nightlife district right? It’s where all of the clubs were,” Baker said. “We were kinda there before the residents were there and the condos and lofts all came, kinda started to get developed,” she added. Baker noted that losing the 3 a.m. license would be “detrimental” because the majority of her business comes from the late-night rush after other bars close…
