Dametria McDile laid to rest in colorful service after she died in custody at St. Louis jail

Dozens of Dametria McDile’s family and loved ones dressed in her favorite colors, pink and purple, laid her to rest Thursday morning at the New Paradise Baptist Church in Jennings.

People sat in several rows of pews across the church as the celebration ceremony began. Michelle Watson’s voice filled the room as she sang Donnie McClurkin’s 1996 gospel hit, “Stand,” while some attendees closed their eyes and others looked toward McDile’s pink-and-white casket.

McDile, 32, had an immense love for her family and carried a gentle, affectionate spirit, said Pastor Eddie Morris while standing at a podium in front of the room. He noted that McDile — whose nickname was “Meechie” — was a sister, a niece, a cousin and a mom of six children, including two sets of twins…
