Armed felon gets 8 years for chasing teens in Webster Groves

A convicted felon who pursued three teenagers through a Webster Groves neighborhood while armed has been sentenced in federal court to eight years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Maria A. Lanahan imposed the eight-year federal sentence on Thursday. The defendant, Leon Joseph Reitz, 54, previously pleaded guilty in October in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court records, the incident occurred on March 7, 2025, on Greeley Avenue in Webster Groves. Two juvenile males and an 18-year-old male were inside a parked vehicle while the juveniles picked up their friend who lived on the block. Reitz approached the vehicle with one hand positioned behind his back, then increased his pace to a jog and drew a handgun. The teens fled in their car, and Reitz followed them in a Toyota Camry through residential streets…
