City Hall glows with purpose as sold-out Mayor’s Ball returns home

ST. LOUIS — A huge crowd packed the rotunda of City Hall Friday night for a sold-out celebration marking the historic return of the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Ball to its original home.

The 24th annual event, which serves as the premier kickoff to Saturday’s Bud Light Grand Mardi Gras Parade, is back at City Hall for the first time since the pandemic. After several years at larger venues like Union Station and the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten, organizers say the “homecoming” energy is undeniable.

“City Hall was always the home of this event,” said Mack Bradley, president of the Mardi Gras Foundation. “This is where it started and it’s the Mayor’s Ball and this is both the people’s house and the Mayor’s house, so we think it makes a lot of sense.”…
