ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – If you’re feeling the weight of carrying extra credit cards or other types of debt from month to month, you’re not alone.
The Fed reports that household debt has hit a record $18.6 trillion and that defaults have been climbing. Along with that, the number of complaints being filed about illegal debt collections is surging. The Missouri and Illinois attorneys general both said it’s the third most common complaint they receive.
The Federal Trade Commission said that complaints are up 200% with more than 400,000 Americans filing complaints about debt collections, and half said the calls were harassing, fraudulent, or threatening…
