An innocent, eight-week-old puppy’s plight shattered hearts at Stray Rescue of St. Louis on Tuesday, March 10, after Animal Control found the defenseless little guy wandering the streets with what appeared to be extensive wounds to his tiny face.

The 11-pound puppy was immediately transferred to Stray Rescue where veterinarians identified a serious bite wound on his face and puncture wounds on his nose and under his ear. The force of the bite had been so strong, his eyeball had popped out of the socket.

He was immediately treated with anti-inflammatory medications, antibiotics, and pain medications.

His rescuers named him Spinach, and emergency surgery was scheduled to remove his eye. Sadly, it had been damaged beyond repair.
