St. Louis police tout early curfew’s impact, but says extension would be up to electeds

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says that this past weekend’s early downtown curfew was a success, but whether it will be extended into future weekends is up to the mayor and the Board of Aldermen.

The early curfew this past weekend was in effect Friday, Saturday and Sunday, requiring people under 18 to be off the streets in downtown and Downtown West after 10 p.m. That is two hours earlier than normal and earlier than the normal weekday curfew of 11 p.m.

At a press conference yesterday, SLMPD spokesman Mitch McCoy said that the move was a success. On Friday night, 23 juveniles were detained in the two neighborhoods. The youngest was 11 years old. Only six were from the city; the rest were from St. Louis County. No juveniles were picked up on Saturday and Sunday…
