What Nashville’s 2020 tornado can teach St. Louis about disaster recovery

Just after midnight on March 3, 2020, an EF3 tornado cut a 60-mile path of destruction across Nashville and surrounding communities.

One of the hardest-hit areas was North Nashville — the historic heart of the city’s Black community and an area similar to parts of St. Louis devastated by the May tornado.

Nashville in 2020 and St. Louis in 2025 were cities on entirely different trajectories…
