Teen Shot and Killed Outside School Event in Ferguson, Missouri
A tragic shooting in Ferguson has left a community grieving after a 13-year-old boy was killed following a track meet at a local high school.
Police say the incident occurred Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a school campus as the event was ending.
Victim Identified as 13-Year-Old LaJuan Slopes
The victim, LaJuan Slopes, was described by friends and community members as a kind and respectful teenager. He had recently attended a track meet when gunfire broke out shortly after 7 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that both Slopes and another teen were shot. While both victims underwent surgery, Slopes later died from his injuries approximately two and a half hours after the shooting.
Second Teen Injured, Undergoing Treatment
A second victim, a 15-year-old boy, was also injured during the incident. Officials say he survived the shooting and received medical treatment. His current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Suspect in Custody, Faces Multiple Charges
Police confirmed that a 13-year-old suspect has been taken into custody. He is facing serious charges, including:
- Second-degree murder
- Assault
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Armed criminal action
