Police dispel rumor of man accused of pointing gun at vehicles Tuesday morning

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department dispelled a rumor regarding photos and video circulating social media Tuesday morning.

Screenshots of a dashboard camera were posted to Reddit, asking about a man allegedly pointing a gun at drivers at Jefferson and Washington avenues just before 7 a.m. It was also noted that the man looked like he was wearing tactical gear.

Users were quick to notice and share their concerns and frustration with the incident. Many pointed out that an SLMPD vehicle drove by the man.

SLMPD later posted on social media that they received two calls reporting the suspicious behavior. One individual reported that the man had a gun, and the other said he was pointing his fingers like a gun.

Looking at Real Time Crime Cameras in the area, surveillance footage revealed to officers that the man did not have a gun. He was pointing his fingers to look like a gun.
