ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) released the results on its Fast Track Testing Day Blitz, a hiring event aimed at addressing a shortage of police officers.
During the event Wednesday, candidates were given an on-site opportunity to apply to become police officers and take their fitness and aptitude tests on the same day. The hiring push comes as the department has lost hundreds of officers over the past several years, leading to increased overtime.
The event featured two sessions: one beginning at 8 a.m. and the other at noon. Many applicants arrived even before 8 a.m. Candidates were able to complete the fitness test, aptitude test and oral interview in about four hours. Typically, those steps can take up to six months when scheduled separately.
