ST. LOUIS — If it seems like nearly every major road in St. Louis city is torn up right now, you’re not imagining it. Spire is in the middle of a sweeping infrastructure overhaul — replacing aging gas lines under some of the city’s busiest corridors — and the company is racing to finish before the city starts laying fresh asphalt.
Spire Area Manager of Construction Engineering Lindsay Snyder says the company is replacing old cast iron and steel gas mains with new plastic pipe along the length of South Grand.
“We are retiring our old cast iron and steel main and putting in new plastic main,” Snyder said. “And that’s going to help us ensure safety, increase reliability, and as well as reduce emissions.”…
