Minnesota restaurant openings & closings for September 2026

Good things come in pairs in the Twin Cities restaurant scene: two new Japanese eateries serving sweet treats, two new St. Paul neighborhood restaurants and two new outposts from popular salad chains all landed in the metro this month.

The Twin Cities said also goodbye to a dining institution this week with the news that French Meadow in Minneapolis has closed after 41 years.

Openings

Bewick Cafe (1340 Thomas Ave. W, St. Paul): A new all-day cafe recently opened in the former Groundswell space. The restaurant’s name, pronounced “Buick”, references a North American songbird called the Bewick’s Wren, which builds its nest together with its mate. “A perfect fit for a restaurant built by a husband and wife duo building a cafe in their own neighborhood,” write co-owners Andrew Bates and chef Nicole Pederson-Bates…
