Audits: Issues at USPS Branches in Eagan, Apple Valley Led to Major Mail Delays

Recent audits by the United States Postal Service (USPS) Office of the Inspector General uncovered operational issues at the Eagan and Apple Valley postal branches that led to major mail delays.

The audits found over 50,000 pieces of delayed mail at the Eagan branch and nearly 29,000 pieces in Apple Valley on a single day. Management failed to provide proper oversight at both locations, leading to the significant mail delays.

In Eagan, auditors found delayed prescription medications, paychecks, and other important mail dating back over a week. Issues with scanning and tracking packages were also identified.

At the Apple Valley location, packages were improperly scanned and handled. Some packages were scanned as delivered up to 3.5 miles away from the intended address.

In addition to mail delays, the audits highlighted concerning facility conditions including loose railings, missing drywall, and nonfunctional restrooms.

Due to the severity of the findings, the USPS Inspector General is now launching a full investigation into postal operations across the Minnesota-North Dakota region.
