(Brooten MN-) A Coon Rapids man appeared in Stearns County District Court last week on charges stemming from a crash that killed 41-year-old Cassie Mithaugen of Belgrade last Monday morning. Investigators accuse 52-year-old Chad Seitz of Coon Rapids of being under the influence of cannabis when his pickup crossed the centerline of Highway 55 east of Brooten and collided with Mithaugen’s car head-on. She was partially ejected and died in the crash, and her 3-year-old step-daughter was injured with cuts and bruises. Mithaugen was taking the child to daycare when the crash happened. Seitz wasn’t hurt, and is charged with two counts of Criminal Vehicular Homicide and Criminal Vehicular Operation-Causing Bodily Harm While Under the Influence. He’s also charged with Providing a Peace Office with False Identification. In Stearns County District Court last Wednesday unconditional bail was set at $800,000, and $400,000 with conditions. His next court appearance is February 2nd (1 p.m.) where he will have the opportunity to enter a plea to the five charges against him.
