Planned Parenthood to close one MN location amid funding challenges, threats from ‘hostile states’

Planned Parenthood North Central States announced a series of operational changes Tuesday aimed at helping the nonprofit stay afloat financially as it responds to an increase in the number of out-of-state patients seeking an abortion and “threats from hostile states” after the end of Roe vs. Wade.

The nonprofit announced it’ll close its health center in Woodbury in the coming year and consolidate its operations into the Rice Street health center in St. Paul .

The organization will also shift operations at the Vandalia Street health center in Saint Paul, moving the health center’s family planning services to Rice Street to allow for more abortion appointments and higher patient volumes at Vandalia Street.

The changes in the Twin Cities are part of a broader effort to address ongoing regional challenges, such as provider shortages, rising charitable care costs, and “lagging reimbursement rates that have not kept pace with inflation.”

It’s also consolidating the Urbandale/West Health Center in Iowa into its Susan Knapp health center when it’s expanded in Des Moines.
