Father Sentenced in Case of Teen Son’s Deadly Shooting in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — In a courtroom on Monday, Letterance Grady, the father of a teenager who shot and killed 12-year-old London Bean in Minneapolis over two years ago, faced sentencing for his role in the tragic case. Grady was accused of encouraging his son, Jeremiah, to retaliate after a reported altercation between Jeremiah’s younger brother and London Bean back in September 2021.

The incident unfolded in the Sumner-Glenwood neighborhood, where police say Letterance drove Jeremiah to the shooting scene, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting of London Bean. Bean was found critically wounded by authorities and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

Initially, Letterance Grady denied any involvement in the shooting, but security video evidence contradicted his claims. Jeremiah Grady also admitted that his father had encouraged him to respond to the situation and instructed him to fire shots from their vehicle.

Letterance Grady later pleaded guilty to his role in the case, and on Monday, he received his sentence. After factoring in the time already served, Grady was sentenced to more than four years in prison, with supervised release to follow upon his release.
