Bill Simmons on what makes Anthony Edwards similar to a young Kobe Bryant: “Edwards feels like he swimming in that pool”

Anthony Edwards is one of the NBA’s top young stars. The No.1 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft has improved each year, and this season, Edwards looks poised to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to their best season since Kevin Garnett won MVP in 2004.

According to podcaster Bill Simmons , Ant-Man reminds him of a young Kobe Bryant , when the then-teenager began to transform into the Black Mamba.

“Edwards has it,” said Simmons on The Bill Simmons Podcast . “You could see. I remember the late 90s with Kobe, those first couple of years, when I had a website, writing about Kobe, and everyone was on the bandwagon ‘I think this guy has it’ and then it was Game 4 of the 2000 Finals when Shaq fouled out, that moment against Indiana, it was like ‘Yes, he has it’. Edwards feels like he’s swimming in that pool.”

Game 4 of the 2000 NBA Finals has always been considered Kobe Bryant’s breakthrough game. Sure, he was already an All-Star then, but the Lakers had not won a championship yet. In that game, however, Kobe showed he had the spirit and poise to take over a big game.
