ST. PAUL – The Wild defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight on home ice to bring themselves within three points of a playoff spot.
But they didn’t come out of the game as healthy as they wanted to.
Marcus Foligno played in just over seven minutes of ice time and got hurt in the second period. Marcus Pettersson received a tripping penalty on Foligno with about nine seconds left in the second period.
Foligno started the third period on the bench and immediately got a shift on the penalty kill but it only lasted 11 seconds. Foligno caught a pass in the defensive zone and skated it out before trying to pass to Freddy Gaudreau up the ice.
After he made the pass Foligno slammed his stick on the ice and skated right towards the bench. He then ran down the tunnel and dropped his stick. That was the last we saw Foligno.
“I don’t know yet. I don’t know if it’s serious or not serious,” Wild head coach John Hynes said on Foligno’s status. “We’ll see tomorrow.”
Pettersson’s trip seemed harmless but it must’ve caught Foligno in the wrong spot because the 6-foot-3 power forward did not return to the game.
