Police hunting group responsible for string of robberies in Minneapolis

Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a string of 14 robberies that happened at the weekend.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. Garrett Parten says the robberies occurred in different parts of the city, with most of them happening in a five-hour period 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday.

Most of the robberies committed involved a group of three to six males or females getting out of a car and robbing victims on foot. Items taken included purses, wallets and phones. Parten adds that in some cases, victims were assaulted by the suspects.

According to MPD, the suspects are described as juveniles or young adults, wearing dark clothing and masks. In most of the incidents, guns were also seen.

The department believes that eight of the 14 robberies involved suspects who arrived and left in a grey SUV that had been carjacked early Friday.

Parten provided the following tips to residents:

“If you are approached by an armed individual or group of individuals who demand your valuables, focus on as many details as possible. Important details are license plate numbers, vehicle description, height, weight, sex, race, hair color, and hairstyle of individual suspects, clothing descriptions of suspects, and the number of suspects with their direction of travel. Call 911 as soon as you are able. If your credit or debit cards are stolen, cancel them by phone as soon as possible and note any usage after the theft.”
