Anthony Edwards announced he would only shoot left-handed on All-Star Weekend. It blew up on him right away.
In the first round of the Skills Challenge, Edwards went last for the team of No. 1 overall picks. When he got to the spot where participants had to sink a corner three over a robotic defender, Edwards missed badly with his southpaw attempts.
He told TNT’s Allie LaForce about his his left-handed shooting plan before All-Star Saturday.
Edwards said it was “just for fun” and added that he would be happy scoring 15 points with his all-lefty approach.
He wasn’t the only All-Star to mess up in the first round. Paolo Banchero and Tyrese Maxey ran the course wrong, while Scottie Barnes lost his dribble running the course. Then in the half-court shot contest, a frustrated Barnes started shooting backwards.
But Edwards learned his lesson. When the third round arrived, Edwards switched to his right hand and made enough shots to send the All-Stars to the final round.
