Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns compares himself and Anthony Edwards to volatile duo

Clearly, Karl-Anthony Towns isn’t a big fan of history, even if it concerns the team he plays for, the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While he undoubtedly meant well, Towns made a dubious comparison when asked how he and teammate Anthony Edwards co-exist.

“Why can’t two legends coincide? Rember KG and Marbury — why not us be able to take that torch and run with it?” Towns told FS1’s Rachel Nichols . “Just being able to put our egos aside — we both want to see each other win.”

The words sound great on the surface, but any Timberwolves fan could quickly reveal why Towns and Edwards would be wise to avoid ending up like Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury.

Garnett and Marbury began their careers together with the Timberwolves in the mid-90s. Both world-class players, the future looked bright for the franchise with the pair leading the way. However, after only two and a half seasons, it was all over after Marbury forced a trade to the then-New Jersey Nets.

All these years later, discussions over what went wrong continue to creep up every once in a while. In 2015, Garnett admitted to ESPN that ” ego ” ultimately led to the downfall of his and Marbury’s run with the Timberwolves. At the time, Garnett had recently returned to Minnesota after stints with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets to mentor Towns, who was only a rookie.
