A 14-year old boy is under arrest after police say he mistakenly shot his 13-year old friend.
It happened around 1:30 Tuesday morning inside a home in the 2400 block of Ferrant Place in the Minneapolis northside Jordan neighborhood.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara tells WCCO’s Adam and Jordana that police were “familiar” with both of the boys and say there were two adult women and other juveniles in the house when the shooting took place.
“I mean, we’ve had them in stolen cars, we’ve had them reported as missing kids, we’ve had them involved in robberies,” O’Hara said on WCCO Radio Tuesday morning. “It’s just, they’re not known to just us, they’re known to the rest of the system as well. And it wasn’t just them. Some other kids that were there are very well known to us.
The 14-year old was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
“Again, like the system, we’re all failing these kids,” O’Hara explained.
Minneapolis Police say officers are continuing their investigation and O’Hara called the death troubling and tragic.
