Savage couple convicted of kidnapping infant and skipping town

A Savage couple was convicted on Friday for kidnapping their infant last January after Child Protective Services removed the baby from their care.

Amanda Wamack, 31 and Zachariah Whitehead, 32 , have each been found guilty with one count of kidnapping after attempting to flee out of state with their infant on Jan. 16, 2023.

The complaint states that the two had brought their week-old child to the Children’s Emergency Department for a fractured arm on Jan. 12, 2023.

The two parents were being initially cooperative, saying it may have been accidental while changing the baby’s clothing, because the child was “wiggly.”

However a report was made to Scott County Child Protection and when they decided to place the child with another family member, they became “very upset,” stating that they were “sovereign citizens” and did not agree with the government’s laws.

The baby was placed with the grandmother, and the couple was not allowed stay at the home until further meetings with CPS, charges state.
