Red Fox Tavern near Lakeville announces temporary closure

The Red Fox Tavern near Lakeville, which was targeted in an armed robbery last month, will be temporarily closing its doors.

Citing mental and physical burnout, owner Lee Petersen announced the “temporary closing” of Red Fox Tavern in a Thursday Facebook post.

The restaurant, which has been open for 15 years in New Market Township, will close Sunday.

“I would like to thank my staff, past and present, for being such an integral part of my business and for helping to provide so many wonderful experiences to our countless guests over the years,” Petersen wrote wrote.

The post continues: “Restaurant work is not easy. It takes commitment, thick skin and a really good sense of humor. Your efforts have never gone unnoticed, you have shown grace, warmth and dedication.”

Lee went on to say customers can expect a “new experience” at Red Fox Tavern in 2025.

Last month, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery at the restaurant. According to one employee’s account of the incident, the suspect took the two remaining employees’ phones, tied them up and pointed his gun at them repeatedly after the last customers left for the evening.
