Driver Pleads Guilty in High-Speed Minnetonka Crash

A Minnetonka man has pleaded guilty to felony criminal vehicular operation after a high-speed crash in March left the victim with severe injuries.

Mohamed Aydarus Salad, 29, admitted to operating his vehicle in a grossly negligent manner during the March 5 collision at Highway 7 and Williston Road.

According to court documents, Salad’s Chevrolet Equinox struck the victim’s car while traveling at an estimated 68 to 74 mph, with data showing speeds as high as 96 mph seconds before the crash.

The impact of the crash left the victim hospitalized for a month, including time in a coma and it caused multiple serious injuries. Salad’s license was revoked at the time of the crash.

As part of a plea agreement, Salad will receive an 18-month stayed prison sentence and three years of probation. He must also serve 364 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse, with eligibility for electronic home monitoring after 180 days. Additional conditions of probation include remaining law-abiding and completing any court-ordered programs.
