The man suspected of being drunk behind the wheel when he struck two people in a St. Louis Park crosswalk, killing one of them and critically injuring the other, has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide.
A criminal complaint filed against Jeremy Sherman, 38, of St. Louis Park, alleges that he didn’t slow down for the crosswalk near commercial printing company Japs-Olson at 7500 Excelsior Boulevard, striking a woman and a man at 6 p.m. Monday.
The woman, since identified by family as 51-year-old Manes Thach, died from her injuries. She was employed by Japs-Olson, and was due to celebrate her 52nd birthday on New Year’s Eve.
The other victim, a 60-year-old man who worked with Thach at Japs-Olson, was left with severe injuries, with the complaint saying he was found “bleeding from a huge laceration to his head” and remains hospitalized.
The pair were in the crosswalk at Excelsior Boulevard and Meadowbrook Lane when they were hit by Sherman, who was driving north on Meadowbrook. A witness told police that Sherman’s vehicle “was traveling very fast, and it did not appear that the vehicle slowed down or attempted to stop or brake before striking the two pedestrians.”
