St. Paul man accused of firing armor-piercing bullets at officer charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing multiple shots at a pursuing St. Paul Police officer before his arrest on Monday.

Samuel Cal Flowers, 26, of St. Paul, has also been charged with 1st-degree assault, illegal gun possession, drug possession, DWI and weapons offenses following the incident in which he allegedly fired armor-piercing bullets from an AR-15-style rifle as he was fleeing a traffic stop.

The criminal complaint against Flowers alleges he fired up to a dozen rounds at the chasing squad car. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Flowers was first spotted allegedly speeding along University Avenue in St. Paul around 11 p.m., going 47 mph in a 30 mph zone. The pursuing officer allegedly saw Flowers blow through multiple stop signs…
