Cold Weather Advisory Issued for Orono Area

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory in our area, effective from 9 pm Saturday, January 18th to noon Tuesday, January 20, 2025. Temperatures are plummeting, with wind chills to reach as low as -35°F. Here is what this means and how you can stay safe in these extreme conditions.

What is a Cold Weather Advisory?

A Cold Weather Advisory is issued when dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are coming. These can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes and can also cause hypothermia. Frostbite can cause permanent damage to the skin and Limbs. Hypothermia can be a fatal condition that happens when a person loses heat faster than the body can produce.
