Alcohol withdrawal allegedly ignored: Family sues after man’s jail death

MINNEAPOLIS — The family of a man who died while in custody at the Hennepin County Jail filed a lawsuit Wednesday, accusing jail staff of inadequately caring for him while he suffered serious withdrawal effects from alcohol, leading to his death.

According to court documents, Nicholas Davidson, 29, was found dead in his cell on March 23, 2022 — five days after being arrested in Richfield and taken into custody. Davidson’s mother and trustee, Sandra Davidson, alleged in the suit that her son’s civil rights were violated and that jail staff “engaged in negligence and medical malpractice,” causing his wrongful death.

His mother is now seeking monetary damages as compensation for his death…
