Heads up, Bay Area commuters: if you’re planning a road trip to Minnesota anytime soon, particularly through the Coon Rapids area, you’ll want to factor in some additional travel time starting March 31. That’s because the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is kicking off a major construction project to add a third lane in each direction on Highway 10, stretching from Round Lake Boulevard to Hanson Boulevard.
The work, which is dependent on cooperative weather—is expected to cause some significant disruptions throughout the summer months, “You’re going to find single lane traffic in either direction throughout the summer,” Kent Barnard of MnDOT stated according to the City of Coon Rapids website. They gave drivers a heads up about potential hold-ups, suggesting a dose of patience could come in handy as travelers will indeed “encounter some congestion from the construction from the lane closures.”
In addition to lane congestion, those passing through will also need to navigate around intermittent ramp closures at both Round Lake Boulevard and Main Street, though they are not expected to be shut down for the entire duration of the project.
