Winter storm warning issued: Up to 12 inches of snow set to fall in Minnesota

The next 48 hours in Minnesota will bring some big-time snow to central and northern Minnesota, while the Twin Cities narrowly dodges the bullets and gets mostly rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for a big chunk of central and northern Minnesota, while a winter weather advisory surrounds the warning.

The highest snow totals are currently forecast in places like Bemidji, Grand Rapids and Duluth, where a foot of snow could pile up.

Along the North Shore, including Grand Marais, Silver Bay and Two Harbors, 11-15 inches is possible, with up to 17 inches forecast for higher terrain along up the shoreline.

  • 4-7 inches : Aitkin, Brainerd, Hinckley, Pine City, Ortonville, Superior, Wheaton
  • 5-7 inches : Alexandria, Little Falls, Long Prairie, More, Princeton
  • 6-9 inches : Ely, International Falls
  • 4-10 inches : Ashby, Breckenridge, Elbow Lake, Fargo, Fergus Falls, Moorhead
  • 5-11 inches : Bagley, Battle Lake, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Mahnomen, Park Rapids, Perham, Red Lake, Staples, Wadena, Waubun
  • 6-11 inches : Bigfork, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Hill City, Walker
  • 11-15 inches : Grand Marais, Silver Bay, Two Harbors
