Outdoor enthusiasts in Dakota County got a breath of fresh air on May 6th with the inauguration of the Vermillion River Greenway in Hastings. According to Dakota County’s announcement, this 2.1-mile stretch of paved pathway is part of a grander 200-mile greenway system that the county has been piecing together bit by bit.
Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik, in an environment imbued with the natural serenity of the falls, highlighted the strategic significance of the new trail. “To connect you to communities, to connect you to natural resources like the Vermillion Falls here, like the Mississippi River, the Minnesota River — some of the most amazing things that make Dakota County unique,” Slavik told the gathering, positioning the Greenway as more than just asphalt and scenery, but as a linchpin in regional connectivity. Cyclists and pedestrians alike can now take advantage of the Hastings 10-Mile Loop and explore fresh trailheads at C.P. Adams Park and Vermillion Falls Park.
