Man sentenced to 11 years in prison after robbing mail carriers in Edina, Brooklyn Center at gunpoint

MINNEAPOLIS — A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing two postal workers at gunpoint in 2023.

Rubin Adams was sentenced to 132 months of prison and five years of supervised release after he admitted to robbing two different mail carriers over two days. According to court documents, on Nov. 18, 2023, Adams went up to a United States Postal Service letter carrier in Edina and demanded a mailbox key. The carrier didn’t have a mailbox key, but Adams did get keys to two USPS vehicles, according to the criminal complaint.

The next day, court documents say Adams approached a different mail carrier in Brooklyn Center, pointed a gun at their head and stole two USPS mailbox keys. Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson said in a press release that Adams then stole mail from dozens of Twin Cities-area collection boxes and used it to pass forged checks…
