St. Paul Public Schools asks voters to approve tax increase to avoid ‘significant’ program, job cuts

St. Paul Public Schools Board of Education has unanimously approved a ballot referendum for November in hopes of covering an anticipated $37 million budget shortfall beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Superintendent Stacie Stanley, in an interview on Friday, said the additional funding wouldn’t cover anything new. Instead, she said the district needs the funding to maintain operations.
