Minneapolis, MN – Derrick Thompson, 29, has been sentenced to more than 58 years in prison for causing a high-speed crash that killed five young women in Minnesota.
The victims, aged between 17 and 20, were killed in the crash on December 14, 2023, after Thompson sped at over 110 mph in a rented Cadillac Escalade.
The Crash and Investigation
Thompson was convicted of five counts of third-degree murder and 10 counts of vehicular homicide. He had rented a Cadillac Escalade and was driving recklessly through Minneapolis, even after law enforcement tried to pull him over.
The crash happened after he ran a red light and collided with a Honda Civic, killing all five women inside. The car was pinned against a bridge, and the women were declared dead at the scene.
Thompson’s Defense and Denial
