Truck driver who admitted to hitting motorist’s vehicle with hatchet in 2023 sentenced to probation

HASTINGS, Minn. — A Texas semi driver who admitted to striking another motorist’s vehicle with a hatchet in 2023 was sentenced Tuesday to three years of supervised probation.

Chiam Aryah Leib Slater, of Houston, was convicted of making threats of violence and causing property damage during a road rage incident on Oct. 25, 2023, that began on Interstate 35. Slater was also sentenced to three days in prison, which he has already served, according to court documents.

The criminal complaint says Minnesota State Patrol was dispatched to the County Road 50 exit after a 911 call from a driver reporting that another motorist was hitting his vehicle with a hatchet. By the time law enforcement arrived, the attacker had left the scene in a semi hauling construction equipment.
