More than 14,000 without power after storms roll through Minnesota

Storms that produced severe weather in the Twin Cities Friday evening were followed by another round of hefty storms Saturday morning, resulting in thousands of Xcel Energy customers without power.

As of 8 a.m. Saturday, Xcel Energy estimated approximately 14,800 customers without power. Locations with the most outages include:

  • 3,000 in Minneapolis
  • 2,800 in White Bear Lake
  • 2,300 in Eden Prairie
  • 1,800 in Faribault

Storms rapidly developed and produced strong winds, large hail and flash flooding in the Twin Cities on Friday afternoon.

Large hail was reported in Anoka, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Circle Pines, Champlin, Rogers, Victoria and Rogers. Trees and power lines were downed by a severe thunderstorm that struck Hastings, and the same occurred in neighboring Prescott, Wisconsin…
