MN Court of Appeals reverses conviction for suspect in Alex Becker’s murder

The Minnesota Court of Appeals has reversed the aiding and abetting second-degree murder conviction against a suspect in the murder of Alex Becker.

Detwan Cortell Allen was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison in April of 2024.

In his appeal, Allen argued that the evidence presented at trial was insufficient to support the conviction. He also stated there were various trial errors and that the district court abused its discretion by denying his motion for a new trial, the filing states.

Using surveillance video, investigators matched the suspect vehicle with three men: Allen, Arteze Kinerd and Shaun Lamar Travis. Travis was acquitted of the murder and Kinerd pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years…
